While opportunities abroad can be rewarding, they can be tiring and challenging for a number of reasons, one is to have a chance at financial success. If you’re a seafarer, for instance, there’s the hard work of being away at sea for months, all the while wondering when your next contract will come.
The same goes with being an overseas Filipino worker (OFW)—aside from trying to fit in with the culture and wondering how long you can stay, there’s also back-breaking work to do. Often, all in the name of providing a better life for the people they love.
It’s a heartbreaking reality that more than 2.2 million of our kababayans – 21% of these OFWs are seafarers – have gone abroad in search of greener pastures. The Philippines offers some of the lowest average monthly wages and is one of the most expensive cities to live in Asia, skewering the standard of living. Moreover, there still exists a lack of employment opportunities and job security for a lot of our kababayans.
But it doesn’t have to always be this way. With more opportunities opening online, more and more Filipinos have the luxury of earning without the extra expenses. And here at Platinum Creditplus Lending Corporation, we firmly believe that every Filipino deserves a chance at financial security and success.
We’re excited, then, to share the success stories of our agents—to start, we’ve had the pleasure to talk to one of our agents who worked abroad before joining us to share how Platinum Creditplus Lending Corp. (PCLC) changed his life.
Orlando “Orland” Balsote joined the Platinum Creditplus Lending Corp. (PCLC) family back in 2019, after working abroad for 12 years. Prior to becoming an agent, Orland worked in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, and Bahrain as an OFW in electrical. “Sa abroad, ang trabaho ko doon, sa electrical maintenance kami,” he says. “Nag-iinstall kami sa mga substation sa electrical, tapos nung pag-uwi ko dito, dito ako nag-start.”
Part of Orland’s work included fixing electrical wiring at the substations, installing electrical panels, and the like. It was his sister, Gemma, who got him into his current work as a PCLC agent. “Nung nag-start ako dito, yun kapatid ko… bago siya namatay, sinasabihan niya ako na umuwi nalang para maging kasama niya ako sa trabaho niya,” Orland says. “Nung namatay siya, umuwi na ko dito, doon ako nag-start dito sa Platinum. Parang substitute ako para kay Ate Gemma.”
Despite this tragic start, joining Platinum Creditplus Lending Corp. (PCLC) was a blessing for him.
“Malaking tulong rin po ang naging experience ko sa Platinum… nakapag-gawa po ako ng sarili kong bahay, — Nung nag-agent ako, di na ako nagpuntang-abroad. Tinuloy-tuloy ko nalang trabaho ko dito.”
The choice became easier as he saw the benefits of his current work as a Platinum Creditplus Lending Corp. (PCLC) agent. For one, his agent work didn’t require the grueling physical demands that came with his previous job. For another, since most of his work was online, he didn’t have to spend on transportation and other expenses that came with an on-site job. The commissions he gets also helped him build his other dreams. “Nakapag-gawa po ako ng bahay dahil sa mga commissions,” Orland says.
Indeed, for this OFW turned dream-maker, Platinum Creditplus Lending Corp. (PCLC) helped jumpstart his current success. And as we prioritize the financial success of our kababayans abroad and on the sea, we hope to create more success stories—both for clients and partners.
